A funeral in the temple, and a cornerstone mystery
1972
In May 1972 the funeral of Jimmie Ford Whitehead was held at the Heights Masonic Temple, 11th and Harvard, with members of Houston Heights Lodge serving as pallbearers. Thirty-seven years after the foreclosure, the building was still hosting the fraternity’s most solemn ceremonies.
The same January, a Grand Lodge notice announced cornerstone ceremonies at 11th and Harvard, set for a Saturday afternoon. What that notice referred to is one of the project’s genuine open questions, and the archive hunt continues.
